Community OuTreach

Sabotage takes part in many community events, honing our skills, knowledge and real world experiences with a focus on equality and fairness in the workplace regardless of sexual orientation, religion or gender. We have passion, determination, motivation, knowledge, and curiosity to be successful in our future endeavours. We also enjoy volunteering in our community, as a way to pay it forward.

STEM Kits & STEM Fair

In order to introduce STEAM to our community we made boxes filled with STEAM related activities and sent them out to our feeder schools and our local women’s shelter. Team members visited our local grade schools to help teachers facilitate the activities. Our hope is to motivate younger students, especially girls in STEAM related programs. We have also sent a STEM kit to the Hiatus House, a women’s shelter.

The Downtown Mission & The Coldest Night of the Year Event

The Coldest Night of The Year is Canada's national walk for homelessness. Our students volunteer as marshalls where they guided and cheered on the walkers and fundraisers. Afterwards, our team members had dinner and spoke with some of Windsor-Essex’s homeless people. The purpose of The Downtown Mission is to be a place of sanctuary that provides food, shelter and support for the homeless.

Community Garden

As part of the Change the World initiative, Sabotage has partnered with United Way and worked on a Community Garden. Our members had the opportunity to increase their knowledge about the important of food security in Windsor-Essex County, develop an understanding of local social issues and community resources while working with partner organizations, and participate in an activity that will have a positive and lasting impact on the quality of life for our community residents.

The White Ribbon Campaign and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

This year we have decided to join forces with the “White Ribbon Campaign” and pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. We want our male members to grow into confident young men who aren’t intimidated by strong, smart women and that they can coexist in STEM related opportunities. These boys will someday become co-workers, husbands and fathers who will make a difference in the lives of women. For the second time we will be participating in “Walk a Mile In Her Shoes” to raise awareness about the serious causes, effects and remediations to men's sexualized violence against women. We will also be hosting an in-school workshop through the White Ribbon Movement. We will be urging other teams to take the pledge this season by adding a white ribbon to our shirts.

Pep Rally

In order to promote our robotics team, FIRST, and school spirit, Sabotage organized a pep rally. During this event, we were able to encourage other school teams, such as our theatre club and sports clubs.

Rookie Day

Our first initiative as a team was purchasing a start-up kit so we could host a “Rookie Day” for all of our local rookie teams. These teams were invited to join, so we could work together in building a KitBot. We invited established teams to help with building and programming to assist our rookie teams, allowing them to be better prepared and less fearful when the build season began. As a team, we feel that the day was a great success.

FIRST Lego League & Zone Robotics Junior Lego League

Sabotage 6331 mentors a rookie LEGO junior team from one of our feeder schools. We help them with constructing and programming their robots. Unfortunately, they were not able to compete this year. Our team members will be judging a lego competition Zone01 organized by our school board, Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence.
