Windsor-Essex Competition

Thursday came after a long week of hard work, excitement, anticipation and a hunger to prove ourselves in our second tournament. At approximately noon, we left for the event which is held at the St-Denis Centre and hosted by the University of Windsor. This day was dedicated to mainly setting up our pit, meeting other teams and testing our robot to make sure our improvements worked and then making the necessary adjustments.

The next day we met at the venue ready to compete. Much like our last tournament, we were met with complications right out of the gates. For some unknown reason, the robot kept powering off midway through our matches. Even when we checked every wire, and every plug we were still greeted with the same unwanted surprise. With the help of the FRC Volunteers, we were able to deduce that it was in fact due to a faulty kill switch that would power the robot off every time we came in contact with the course or another robot.
Once we figured this out, it was easy to fix the problem and continue with our competition. Unfortunately, this resulted in us in an upward climb through the standings and even after a 2 game winning streak to end the day, we were still at the back of the pack. We went home that night and made sure we were refreshed and ready to go the next day.

Saturday, March 1st 2017

The last day we arrived bright and early at 7:30AM. After our team huddle, we were ready to go!
We did very well in the competition after that! Our climbing system even impressed other teams.
We were picked for an alliance with team 772 and the Killer Bees! They helped us improve our robot by putting weights to help stabilize it and added a new and more efficient winch!
We made it to the Finals, but unfortunately after a long,hard day we didn’t succeed in claiming 1st place.
We we’re awarded with finalist medals and we got the Judge’s Award!
As a Rookie Team, we are overjoyed with our success…
